This is a wonderful glimpse of a connected India. I am satisfied that this work has been accomplished in Uttar Pradesh. Today’s event also reflects the working style of the BJP’s two-engine government. Our working style is such that we have to work day and night to complete the project that has been laid.

The 82-km-long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor consists of a 5-km section between Sarai Kail Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 21-km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. Designed to run at speeds of up to 180 kmph, the Namo Bharat system aims to provide faster regional connectivity by connecting Delhi with major urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut. The Delhi-Meerut RRTS Namo Bharat will reduce travel time between the two cities to less than 1 hour, benefiting commuters.

Sarai Kel Khan, the starting station of the corridor, is one of the four Namo Bharat stations. The line is 14 kilometers long in Delhi, with 9 kilometers elevated and 5 kilometers underground, and 68 kilometers long in Uttar Pradesh, with 61 kilometers elevated and 7 kilometers underground. Serving as a major multi-modal hub, it connects Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road, ensuring seamless connectivity. The remaining three stations, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram, are being commissioned in Meerut.

He inaugurated the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram. This metro will run on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat system, which is being launched for the first time in the country. With a maximum speed of approximately 120 kmph, the Meerut Metro is expected to be India’s fastest metro network. The service will cover the entire area in approximately 30 minutes, including all scheduled stops. Both the Delhi-Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat RRTS will operate on the same infrastructure, creating a seamless integration that will enable fast and efficient high-speed inter-city travel.

Its fully air-conditioned three-coach trains, which run along a 21-kilometer-long corridor with 12 stations, are made of lightweight stainless steel in green, blue, and orange colors. Equipped with fuel-efficient and regenerative braking, CCTV, USB ports, and modern train automation systems, each train can carry over 700 passengers, with 173 seats, including reserved seats for women, senior citizens, and differently-abled passengers. After the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi traveled by metro to Meerut South station.

Before the inauguration, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that Prime Minister Modi would accelerate the development of the “New Uttar Pradesh” by inaugurating the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat Train.
Calling it a milestone, he said, “Today will mark a golden chapter in Uttar Pradesh’s journey of progress.”

This improvement in the transport system is expected to enable efficient travel within urban areas as well as faster inter-city mobility. In line with the Prime Minister’s focus on modern, accessible, and sustainable public transport systems to enhance ease of living, these projects aim to reduce road congestion and vehicular carbon dioxide emissions.
