What is the BMRCL clarification?
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced the annual fare revision as per the first Fare Fixing Committee (FFC) constituted under the Metro Railways (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002.
According to the Fare Fixing Committee (FFC), while recommending the revised fare structure and fare zones from 29 to 10 to BMRCL after 7.5 years, the fare revision resulted in an average increase of 51.55 per cent.
Hence, instead of seeing such large increases in future, the committee has implemented an annual automatic fare revision formula. It has been decided to consider the percentage of the annual operation and maintenance cost of the Metro or 5 per cent per annum, whichever is lower, as the ticket price hike. This will result in only a minimal increase, BMRCL said.
