Bengaluru: You may have heard farmers and landowners in villages often talking about “podi” (soil fertilization). What is podi anyway? Why is it so important to get it done? Here is complete information.
5 key benefits of ‘Podi’
- Independent record: You will get a separate RTC (title) and map for your land.
- Loan facility: Easy to get crop loan and Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
- Boundary problem solved: Encroachment by neighboring landowners can be avoided.
- Government benefits: You can take advantage of all government schemes, including crop insurance.
- Sale/Purchase: Podi is mandatory for land transactions.
What is Podi?
Simply put, Podi means the “division” or “repair” of land.
If the same survey number has the names of more than two people or there are multiple partners, then legally measuring and separating the land and issuing an independent record (RTC/Cadastre) in their names is called ‘Podi’.
Why is it important?
Generally, farmers face many problems when there are multiple names in the same RTC:
- Crop loans are not available in banks.
- It will be difficult to get government subsidies and crop insurance benefits.
- The land cannot be sold.
When you get your land registered, you will get a separate share number and map for your land. This will make you the complete and independent owner of your land.
Types of food and application submission:
There are mainly 4 types of podi:
- Application form
- Alienation Podi
- Mutation Podi
- Tatkal food (in case of emergency)
Required documents:

- Current Land Tenure (RTC)
