An all-party meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. During this, the opposition parties targeted the government. The first phase of the Budget session will begin tomorrow, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget in Parliament at 11 am on February 1.
New Delhi, January 27: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Budget ( Budget 2026 ) on February 1. This year, for the first time in India’s history, the Union Budget will be presented on a Sunday. As has been the tradition for the last few years, an all-party meeting was held today to discuss how Parliament can function smoothly on February 1. The meeting, chaired by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was attended by leaders of various political parties.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, senior BJP leaders and several opposition representatives attended the all-party meeting. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh was among the opposition leaders. The Budget session will begin tomorrow (Wednesday) with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Economic Survey will be presented on January 29. However, the Union Budget will be presented on February 1. This is the ninth consecutive budget presentation by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The first phase of the session will continue till February 13, during which the motion of thanks on the President’s address will be debated and passed. Parliament will reconvene on March 9 after a recess and the session will conclude on April 2.
The Congress criticised the central government for not sharing its proposed legislative agenda ahead of the session at an all-party meeting today. Speaking after the meeting, Congress leader K. Suresh said that the opposition parties were unhappy for not sharing the list of any bills to be introduced.
